Monsignor Meliton Oso, Executive Director of the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center

JARO ARCHDIOCESAN SOCIAL ACTION CENTER
People Empowerment Champion

Founded in 1969, the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center (Jasac) has given a voice to the less-privileged by taking up the cudgels in their behalf on issues affecting the poor and at the same time educating them on how to better understand social problems through rural congresses and forums.

Envisioned as “a family that is responsive to the needs of the poor, deprived, oppressed and a community that is Christ-centered, self-governing, self-sustaining and self-nourishing where justice and love reign,” Jasac’s unwavering work for the masses turned them into active participants in governance.

Believing that genuine democracy can only be achieved if the masses can truly decide for themselves, Jasac works for poverty alleviation, relief and rehabilitation, advocacies for social justice and good governance, and education and information campaigns -- making it a true champion of people empowerment.
